Founding & History of Beaver Creek, MN

Beaver Creek, a city in Beaver Creek township, was platted in October 1877 and incorporated in October 1884.  Beaver Creek is the second oldest city in the county and was established with the arrival of the Worthington and Sioux Falls Railroad in late 1877.  The first name proposed was Bishop, in honor of General J. W. Bishop, manager-in-chief of the Sioux City & St. Paul railway lines but before the platt was recorded the new town was named Beaver Creek after the creek and township.

The post office was established in June 1873 at the home of Charles Williams who later donated land to the railroad for platting what would become Beaver Creek.  The first school in Beaver Creek was District No. 15; subsequent bigger buildings were built in 1878 and 1904. Early churches in Beaver Creek were the Methodist and Presbyterian churches – and for a short time a Baptist group.
