The Rock County Historical Society is seeking a hands-on Executive Director to lead a small, community-focused museum organization in southwest Minnesota. RCHS operates multiple historic sites and is home to one of the largest nutcracker collections in the United States, a major visitor attraction that drives strong seasonal engagement and supports public programming. The museum has also recently upgraded its collections storage with high-density shelving, strengthening long-term preservation and future exhibit development.

This is a working leadership role combining daily operations, volunteer coordination, community engagement, basic collections care, and support for exhibits and events.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily museum operations across multiple sites

• Coordinate volunteers and public-facing activities

• Support exhibits, events, and seasonal programming

• Manage basic finances with the Board Treasurer

• Maintain community partnerships, communications, and outreach

• Oversee collections organization and facility coordination

• Support fundraising, grant activities, and membership development

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Ability to work independently in a small organization

  • Interest in museums, history, or community engagement

  • Experience in nonprofits, education, or similar fields preferred
